“The Great One”- Wayne Gretzky’s Next Goal: Selling $10.5 Million Mansion

wayne-gretzky-mansion-westlake-village-4

Hockey icon Wayne Gretzky, the NHL’s all-time goals leader, has put his palatial mansion-estate in Westlake Village, CA. on the market for $10.5 million , and it’s everything you would expect of someone nicknamed “The Great One.”

Occupying one acre inside the confines of the exclusive Sherwood Country Club, the stylish home has been impressively updated under Gretzky’s watch to offer a grand combination of textured spaces, stylish appointments and modern conveniences.

Stretching to more than 8,700 square feet, the open floor plan contains five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen, a fitness center and a host of grand living space. Telescoping glass doors are used to bridge indoor-outdoor living spaces, opening balanced interiors to resort-like grounds.

The home opens into the backyard space, where a massive pool and spa anchor the relaxed setting, while long patios and sun decks run on either side. At the rear, a trellised space covers an outdoor kitchen and dining room with a fireplace. A guest house runs off to the side.

Eat Drink and Be Merry in Beverly Hills-Happy St Patrick’s Day

Celebrate St Patrick’s Day in style in Beverly Hills

St. Patrick’s Day was created in the 1600s by the Catholic Church in order to remember Christianity’s arrival in Ireland.

Over the hundreds of years since its inception, St. Paddy’s Day has become one of the biggest secular holidays throughout the entire world.

In the City of Angels, locals flock to traditional St. Patrick’s Day events like the Hollywood St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival, where they down beers from local breweries like Beverly Hills Beer as they chow down on customary Irish grub and watch talented Irish dancers perform jigs to Gaelic pipe music.

There is ample opportunity to hear authentic Emerald Isle music on St. Patrick’s Day Los Angeles 2014 at Shamrock ‘N’ Roll 2014 in Long Beach and The 11th Annual Irish Fair and Music Festival in Pomona.

But, for those who would rather hear music after a Guinness or three, various St. Paddy’s Day bar crawls across the city lead Angelenos to rowdy Irish pubs like Finn McCool’s in Santa Monica, Molly Malone’s in Beverly Grove, and Casey’s Irish Pub Downtown.

Los Angeles residents who don’t want a hangover on March 18th sign up for The Rockin’ Shamrock 5K/10K/15K/Half Marathon or the 2nd Annual Leprechaun Leap 5K to enjoy the desirable SoCal March weather.

St. Patrick’s Day Los Angeles 2014 offers excited celebrants an opportunity to wear their finest green at all kinds of events on March 17th, whether they want to take shots of Jameson at a packed pub or run a race along the Pacific Ocean.

Mortgage Rates creep down by 4%

CNNMoney

Maybe the days of Rock Bottom Mortgage Interest rates are not numbered after all.

Once again, rates are creeping down towards 4%.

Mortgage rates started the year at 4.53%, and have sunk each week in 2014, falling a total of 0.3 percentage point.

Borrowers with a 4.23% mortgage would pay $982 a month on a $200,000 balance, compared with $1,017 on a 4.53% loan.

Luxury Home Prices Rise 7 Percent in 2014

(please contact your Thrive Realtor -Shawnte Northcutte at (310) 295-8000 for additional information on this article and how we can help you to buy or sell now while the market is hot)

The average price of a luxury home in Los Angeles County rose 7.1 percent in the first quarter of this year, compared to the first three months of last year, according to a study released today.

The cost was also up 1.9 percent over the previous quarter, which covered the final three months of 2012, according to the First Republic Prestige Home Index by First Republic Bank.

The average cost of a luxury home in the Los Angeles area in the first quarter of this year was $2.1 million, the highest in nearly four years, according to the index. That compares to $1.7 million in San Diego and $2.8 million in San Francisco.

“Limited inventory exists in many areas, and buyer demand is accelerating for properties in the most desirable neighborhoods,” said Katherine August-deWilde, the bank’s president and chief operating officer. “Many homes have received multiple offers and are selling over the asking prices.”

“The market was driven by real confidence in the economy, foreign buyers and wealthy people who no longer want to hold off buying homes,” Rose said. “Pent-up demand and a lack of inventory resulted in true competition in the market.”

“Last year, people who wanted to buy thought there was going to be more inventory, but that hasn’t materialized,” she said. “People are realizing that it is time to get into the market. The economy and optimism are definitely on the upswing.”

In Los Angeles County, the index tracks sales of luxury homes in Arcadia, Beverly Hills, Calabasas, La Canada Flintridge, Encino, Los Angeles, Malibu, Marina del Rey, North Hollywood, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Playa del Rey, Santa Monica, Studio City, and the West Los Angeles enclaves of Bel Air, Brentwood and Westwood.

First Republic Bank produces the Prestige Home Index each quarter with Fiserv CSW Inc., which provides automated property valuation services and home price metrics to U.S. financial institutions

HAPPY PRESIDENTS DAY – From Thrive Beverly Hills

History

Presidents’ Day is intended (for some) to honor all the American presidents, but most significantly George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. According to the Georgian or “New Style” calendar that is most commonly used today, George Washington was born on February 22, 1732. But according to the Julian or “Old Style” calendar that was used in England until 1752, his birth date was February 11th. Back in the 1790s, Americans were split – some celebrated his birthday on February 11th and some on February 22nd.

When Abraham Lincoln became president and helped reshape our country, it was believed he, too, should have a special day of recognition. Tricky thing was that Lincoln’s birthday fell on February 12th. Prior to 1968, having two presidential birthdays so close together didn’t seem to bother anyone. February 22nd was observed as a federal public holiday to honor the birthday of George Washington and February 12th was observed as a public holiday to honor Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.

In 1968, things changed when the 90th Congress was determined to create a uniform system of federal Monday holidays. They voted to shift three existing holidays (including Washington’s Birthday) to Mondays. The law took effect in 1971, and as a result, Washington’s Birthday holiday was changed to the third Monday in February. But not all Americans were happy with the new law. There was some concern that Washington’s identity would be lost since the third Monday in February would never fall on his actual birthday. There was also an attempt to rename the public holiday “Presidents’ Day”, but the idea didn’t go anywhere since some believed not all presidents deserved a special recognition.

Where to Visit

The George Washington Birthplace National Monument in VA, holds an annual birthday celebration on President’s Day and on his actual birthday. Visitors can enjoy special colonial activities held throughout the day. Mount Vernon (now part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway) also honors George Washington with a birthday celebration weekend and an annual fee-free day (the third Monday of February).

Annual activities to commemorate Abraham Lincoln’s birthday include: a February 12th wreath laying ceremony at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site in KY; Lincoln Day, held each year on the Sunday closest to February 12th at Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in IN; and special birthday programs at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site in IL. Each year, other special events are added, so be sure to check park calendars before you travel.
